Simplified Management on Your Choice of OS

Controlled Desktop
Sun Ray Software is part of a comprehensive family of Sun Virtual Desktop Solutions . With Sun Virtual Desktop Solutions, an organization can centrally manage and control the end-user desktop experience from the server, not the client virtually eliminating desktop maintenance. Users can have access to their own Microsoft Windows XP Pro or Vista sessions running in a virtual machine (VM), or they can have access to a Microsoft Windows desktop environment utilizing Microsoft Terminal Services. Either option results in a secure, manageable desktop environment. If customers are using the Solaris OS desktop, the Sun Desktop Manager is a productive tool that allows system administrators to easily configure user settings. It can provide default configuration values, or lock down configuration values that users cannot change for individual desktop applications or the desktop environment itself.

Zero Client Management
Sun Ray Software manages the client device by itself, which frees administrators to focus on more important things than OS images, security patch updates, and local application updates. It's a big time-saver compared to embedded OS thin clients (Windows XPe, Windows CE, Embedded Linux, and even proprietary thin operating systems) which all require image management software. That means the administrator has to set up software and client device configurations and establish update schedules to push new updates to the client. It's just like PC management. But Sun Ray Software removes the client management burden altogether.

Broad OS and Hardware Support
Sun Ray Software supports a wide range of open source operating systems for x86/x64 servers (Solaris 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Suse Enterprise Linux Server) and for UltraSPARC servers (Solaris 10, 9, 8, and support for Solaris Trusted Extensions).

Sun Ray Connector for Windows
Deliver a secure mobile Windows desktop experience with the Sun Ray Connector for Windows. It gives you a direct connection to Windows Terminal Services and can provide a full-screen Windows desktop or access to specific Windows applications on a Solaris or Linux desktop. Now it's easy to access local peripherals, cut and paste between applications on different operating systems, and use a smart card to authenticate to Windows applications.

A Secure and Manageble Windows Desktop

Eliminate Data Theft
Corporate data on individual disk drives is vulnerable to loss and theft. When a corporate, school or government laptop is stolen, highly sensitive data, such as social security numbers, can be exposed. This can lead to identity theft and monumental law suites. With Sun Ray technology all data is stored in a central datacenter. If a Sun Ray is stolen, it is like a TV. It does not work if it does not have any reception. There is no local data on the client device to steal.

Free Yourself from Viruses
Enterprises of any size or type face viruses, spyware, hackers and other security threats that put valuable organizational data at risk and can cause costly downtime and serious financial impact. Unauthorized data and application access can result in critical damage - from loss of intellectual property to non-compliance with government regulations and mandates. With Sun Ray technology, your desktop environment is virtually free from client-induced viruses and requires almost no client-side upgrades while providing server-level availability and rock-solid data security.,

Fast, Efficient Performance without Compromises
The Sun Ray Appliance Link Protocol (ALP) is a fast and highly efficient solution used to deliver virtual desktops over local and wide area networks. Sun Ray users experience consistently improved performance with the Sun Ray ALP versus competitive remote display protocols, especially over the WAN. Additionally, Sun Ray multimedia enhancements for Windows Media Player provides increased performance of corporate communications and training videos by leveraging client side compute resources and therefore conserving network bandwidth on the server.

Hot Desk Mobility with Statelessness

Hot Desk Mobility
Sun Ray Software completely virtualizes the desktop, which lets users move from any Sun Ray client to another and resume their desktop sessions with instant right-where-they-left-off access. Think of freezing live TV and then driving to your friend's house to restart the program in the exact same spot. That's what you get with Sun Ray Virtual Clients. Hot Desk mobility lets you pull your ID card out of one Sun Ray Client without saving or pausing anything on your desktop and move to another Sun Ray Client -- across the office, down the hall, in the conference room, or across the ocean, wherever there's an authorized network connection -- without losing a single thing. That's what we mean by right-where-you-left-off access.

True Stateless Delivery
Sun Ray Software also provides fully stateless connectivity to Sun Ray clients. Statelessness is one way Sun Ray products protect your documents and provide Hot Desk Mobility. What's "statelessness"? Try unplugging the power cord to any desktop thin client during boot, mid-session, or while connecting. Upon restart, if you don't have all your applications up and running in the exact same spot, it isn't a true "stateless" device. It's just another PC-like thin client, which means you haven't really removed the management burden from the client. Try this trick with a Sun Ray client, and it will resume exactly where you left off.

Reduce Your Environmental Impact
Sun Ray 2 clients consume only 4 watts of power - similar to a night light. Unlike PCs that typically have a 3-year lifespan, customers have been known to use their Sun Ray clients for over a decade - thereby reducing the amount of landfill waste in the world. As a matter of fact, the Sun Ray 2 and the Sun Ray 2FS have a mean time before failure of 22 years!
