Overview

The Sun Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3 (Sun VDI Software 3) open architecture provides a broad choice of client device, virtual desktop OS and virtualization host to meet data security, user experience and TCO goals. Customers can choose to use existing Windows PCs and Macs as client devices or can step up to energy efficient thin clients from Sun and other vendors. A wide variety of virtual desktop operating systems are supported, including Windows XP, Windows 2000, OpenSolaris and Ubuntu. And lastly, IT architects can opt for either VMware Infrastructure or Sun virtualization to host the desktop environments, or even a mixture of the two.

Sun VDI Software 3 delivers a flexible user experience, integrates seamlessly into existing IT environments, simplifies administration, and saves money.

Sun Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3 DVD software media kit supports Solaris, Linux or Windows. License and support is not included.

Perpetual licenses or Subscriptions are sold separately and must be purchased by contacting Sun sales. Licenses or Subscriptions are sold per concurrent user. A concurrent user is a user consuming a session on the server. Sun VDI Software and its components can be installed on as many servers as needed to support the number of licensed users..

The Standard subscription for Sun VDI includes:

USE RESTRICTIONS:

The included license for Sun Secure Global Desktop only allows the product to be used in conjunction with Sun VDI Software Core to provide access from non-Sun Ray devices. Additionally, multiple virtual desktops are not permitted when accessing Sun VDI Software through Sun Secure Global Desktop Software.

Customers wishing to use the full functionality of Sun Secure Global Desktop Software must buy the appropriate Sun Secure Global Desktop Software License.

    • Subscription license:This purchasing method provides a software subscription that allows the right to use the software and support for the duration of the subscription.

  • Sun Fire servers based on either the UltraSPARC or x64/x86 architectures.
  • Third party x64/x86 servers (Dell, HP, etc.) qualified for supported third party Linux (SuSE, Red Hat) or the Solaris 10 OS should run, however, none have been certified.
