Licensing Requirements
A Solaris entitlement is required to run the Solaris Operating System.
End users receive their entitlement when they register their installation, or when they purchase Sun's Solaris support plans, including system plans, for their Solaris installation. End users can register at the link provided at: http://sun.com/solaris
For OEMs and other non-end-users, redistribution rights for the Solaris license are required. License fees vary depending on the hardware configuration. OEM systems ship with a valid license. The end customer may still need to register the Solaris license with Sun.
Additionally Sun's SPARC and x86 based systems ship with the appropriate Solaris entitlement/license.
Solaris licenses are not usually transferable, and are for the specific system it is obtained for/came with.
